A Cozy Intimate In-Home Photoshoot in Austin, Texas | Luke + Molly

Have you met Luke and Molly Schweim? If you haven’t, you are truly missing out. If you have met them, you know exactly what I mean.

Let’s see, where to begin?

I first noticed Luke and Molly (btw it is super weird to NOT say their names together for some reason LOL) in a photography group called LOOKSLIKEFILM. This group is widely known for being filled with incredible photographers from all over the world.

What attracted me the most to them was their sense of style and use of space and lighting in their photos. They are a husband and wife team of boudoir photographers but are also phenomenal in portrait and fine art photography.

After obnoxiously commenting on all of their posts and stalking them on every social media outlet, I messaged them with the fullest extent of excitement that I could offer. I wanted their friendship. They were so inspiring to me and I had to know everything about them.

We made our way to Austin, Texas back in February before COVID took over the world. We had a full week of plans but there was one thing I HAD to do before I left, and that was to visit the Schweim’s.

At this point, they had just moved to Texas from Minnesota and were in a brand new place both physically and mentally. You could even say emotionally.
We sat and talked over Luke’s kick ass waffles for breakfast about life and its struggles but also about its joys that it had to offer.

What better time to document this new and fearfully exciting time in their lives than in their beautifully aesthetic apartment?!

Molly has such a way with words. When you talk, she listens…. intently. She gives your feelings validation without even trying just by simply being present with you.

Luke? Oh man… Luke loves that woman with every ounce of his being. They are a force to be reckoned with.

Where do we even begin?

It's that time of the year where we reflect on our past year and reminisce on our memories. I don't know if many other photographers felt this way, but I had this overwhelming feeling, that I really didn't do much this year. (I know call me crazy, I was always somewhere doing something) I don't know why I was stuck in this mindset but I'm glad I got stuck there because it pushed me to start going through all of my images from 2017 and prove myself wrong.

Well that was a mistake. Not a mistake as in that I couldn't prove myself wrong, (because I surely did) but a mistake as in - "shit, how am I going to narrow this down?"

I didn't get all of my stats together this year like I did last year with how many states we visited and how many weddings we shot and yadda yadda because, if we're being honest, the only people who genuinely are interested in that are other photographers so they can figure out how to "one-up" someone else.

JK. (only half kidding) LOL

This year we focused on feelings, emotion and how to sustain images that make you feel like you were there. We really wanted to put into perspective how intimacy meant more than something sexual, but being completely vulnerable with your partner in a way where empathy and adoration poured from your body language. Judging by the images below, i think we did a pretty good job.

Our main goal was to find ourselves in our work. Meaning : to become what we wanted our images to interpret. Romantic, Fleeting, Intimate and Adventurous. Marriage is a commitment and a journey within itself, just embrace it.

One of our biggest accomplishments in 2017 (besides bringing our 3rd baby boy into the world) was The Real Workshop. My dear friend, Elizabeth Hoard and I had the chance at hosting our own wedding workshop back in August of 2017. We held it at Petit Jean State Park with 9 incredible speakers, 50 new and established photographers and a rugged trek to a waterfall while 8 and 1/2 months pregnant. Didn't really think that last one through. But we made it out alive. Barely.

I'm not going to sell you on why we started this workshop or how we came across the idea but if you are interested, click the link above and read allllll about it.

We danced, laughed, ate, traveled and saw more this year than we ever have. We learned from mistakes and we broke new grounds. We couldn't be more grateful for 2017 than we already are. Especially, with the amazing clients and new friends it brought us.

We have SO much to look forward to in 2018. Here's to this past year and all of its glory.

Jay and Kaila. Where do I even begin? I know you've heard me talk about them before but I don't think I could ever find enough words in a short paragraph to really tell you about these two. Kaila found me on social media and I could tell by her excessive use of exclamation points and capital letters that we were going to be the best of friends. HA. I was right. Numerous trips to Nashville just for hang outs with their sweet siamese cats, Abigail and Miss Daisy. Oh and them too, of course ;)

We planned to come hang out one trip and it turned into a photo sesh downtown. We hit the streets, specifically Printer's Alley, and just started shooting. We wanted more of a documentary\journalistic style, as well as Kaila and Jay, to show their chemistry more prominently in photos versus in words. We wrapped up on the bridge after the sun had set and we were mostly alone. Those are probably my favorites <3

And of course what is Jay without his longboard? We HAD to let them use their longboards during their session because, DUH. Seriously the coolest people ever. You'll see.

To say Kaila and Jay have become good friends of ours would be putting it lightly. Its more like a complicated family thing and we're just better altogether than apart ;) I love these two TO DEATH. And past that. I'm most excited to see you guys tomorrow and FINALLY work together!

Meet Jessica and Jordan. One couple who was beyond my expectations for clients. I can say that by the end of this post you'll have fallen in love with them, too.

Jessica is full of life and has the most contagious laugh. Jordan thinks the world of Jessica. Their love seeped into the images we created that day. It was almost impossible for them to take a bad picture! We started at an automotive shop not far from their wedding venue, Loflin Yard. It was rather cold, after all it was January, so getting inside the building made for some fun and cozy shots. We were even welcomed by a train! Haha. I don't know who had more fun, the conductor or Jessica! :P

We made our way towards Spring Creek Ranch for their second location and when we arrived, it blew my mind! The staff was more than accommodating and went way out of their way to make sure we had a great time enduring the cold and windy weather.

After stocking up on hot coffee and heated golf carts we proceeded to ride around the golf course and pick different spots to play around in! We had a ball. From wrong turns to jumping in and out long enough to warm our hands and feet.

Their wedding is Wednesday, May 3 at Loflin Yard and we cannot WAIT to watch these two become one at this eclectic venue and work alongside some AMAZING vendors such as Pickler Events, Deedra Stone, White Door Events and Klassey Productions!

2016 : A YEAR IN REVIEW

THE HATCHES | MEMPHIS TENNESSEE

SO for starters I have to just say.... Wow. That about sums it up. 2016 was the year I discovered who I was and who I wanted to be. 2016 took me to new places I had never seen before. 2016 gave me friendships, I've never dreamed of before. I have grown in my work and my style and have had clients become lifelong friends.

YOU guys have made this year one HELL of a year. We traveled more than we ever have but not as much as we are going to. We have so so so much to share for whats in store for 2017 but for now we want to remember 2016 and some of the best times of our lives.

We've traveled to 9 States, shot 31 Weddings, and 106 Sessions. We also flew on a plane for the first time.

2016 : You were kick-ass.....

2017 : Take notes. Its only up from here.

A MOODY MIDTOWN SENIOR SESH

Alayia had reached out to me months ago and expressed how much she loved our style and how we use our colors in images. We talked and planned her outfits and locations and the day finally came that we would get to meet in person.

We met at Hi-Definition Salon in Southaven with the one and only Abrianna (AB). I have been so so so extremely thankful to have met AB through my dear friend Cassie. AB has the most creative incentive about her work that I admire indefinitely. I send EVERYONE to her. I love her to death.

Alayia and I talked about our favorite bands and hobbies and everything our little emo hearts could fathom. BTW, She's a HUGE Bring Me The Horizon fan and thats just up my alley so you can imagine how this afternoon went :) We played around in Midtown around the Arts District and HAD to have some coffee from one of my favorite coffee shops there, City & State.

We had an absolute blast. And I know I say that a lot but I guess its safe to say, you're gonna have a blast with me haha. Here are my favorites from her session with me! I hope you enjoy!!

AN INTIMATE MOUNTAINSIDE ENGAGEMENT

Mountains and waterfalls and sunsets, OH MY! But even more "oh my!" because its one gorgeous couple like Hayley & Zach. Who will also be tying the knot THIS saturday! Hayley and Zach are one couple who made it very evident in the very beginning on how important their wedding pictures were to them and added on a Day After Session for when they get back from their honeymoon for even more pictures of them in their wedding attire. DREAM BOAT CENTRAL RIGHT HERE, FOLKS.

There are so many things that you spend money on when planning your wedding but one thing that sticks around after you've broke out your cake on your one year anniversary and finally sent out that last Thank You card, are the images and video from your day. Photographs are the only tangible thing left after your day BLOWS past you.

Don't put it on the back burner, if you want your photos to last you for years and years, make it on the top priorities of your list right next to Venue and Date.

Back to Hayley and Zach ;) Meet the most intimate and lovey and adventurous couple. We met for lunch at this cute little mexican restaurant, that didn't have margaritas (bummer), but had some hella good cheesy chicken over rice. We then just drove. We found the creek and man made waterfall close by but everything else was us just driving and pulling over. These are my favorite types of sessions because I get SO MUCH in such a short amount of time.

I had to narrow it down, tremendously but here are some of my favorites!

A PLAYFUL SUNRISE ANNIVERSARY SESSION

SHIRA + WESLEY | MEMPHIS TENNESSEE

WOW. That's what I'm going to start with. Shira and Wesley were every photographer's DREAM to capture. From the moment they stepped out of their car to the very last frame, they lit up the world around them. When Shira smiled, Wesley smiled. When Wesley laughed, Shira laughed. I had never met a couple more in sync like these two.

They both, despite the freezing cold, had me laughing until my sides hurt. They were so... energetic and full of love and emotion for each other, I had VERY little direction to give them. I literally sat and soaked up every second of their relationship. And I have ZERO complaints.

Shira is also a photographer, Shira Marie Photography, so photographing them came as easy as their love for each other. Wesley admires Shira. You could see it in his face. And Shira adores Wesley, you can see it in her smile. I LOVE these two, I hope I get to photograph them again!

HI GUYS. Meet Olivia. One remarkable young lady with all the sass, spunky, carefree and personality you could ever hope for. Olivia and her mother, Cori, drove all the way from Jackson, MS to do her senior portraits with me and I have to say, I was shocked! Flattered more than anything but shock was definitely one of those feelings.

I had no idea that Olivia even knew who I was but she insisted that she had followed me on Instagram and was determined to have me take her senior photos. I think this made the session a little more personal for me. I was humbled, awe struck and full of so much joy that Olivia chose me to photograph her senior pictures. Her and her mother were such a delight and some of the most genuinely hearted people I had met!

NATHAN & ALLIE

I will start this blog off by saying, my legs are STILL SORE. Although that could be argued with the fact that I'm always on a trail of some sort, hiking into some kind of wooded area.

We took separate vehicles and used Snapchat to fire questions back and forth to each other. We probably had the most fun with this. It helped us get Allie and Nathan's interests and hobbies and quirky little stories and helped them open up to us and really let us in on their love life.
Not in a "nosey" kind of way but in a way where we could all trust each other enough to get the emotions and vibes we were trying to pull from them.

"What is something that Nathan is stronger with where you are weaker?"

"What's your favorite thing to do on Sunday mornings?"

"What is something that you two are looking forward to on your wedding day?"

We were completely blown away at the chemistry between these two. The laughs, the talks, the movements, all of it, simply intimate. We didn't pay attention to time or the people around us, we were just living in the moment and connecting with new friends. I, for one, am SO excited for their spring wedding at the beautiful venue, Bonne Terre.

May can't come fast enough and we cannot wait to celebrate you guys ALL DAY as you take your next step into the adventure of marriage <3

There is a list more than a few miles long of all the things I could tell you guys about Jenna.

I first met Jenna back in March 2016 after I posted in a photographer's community group about going to Arizona in August for vacation. Little did I know that when Jenna commented "ME ME ME, let's have coffee before I move there!", we were going to become lifelong friends. Whether she wanted to or not. But she did so I am relieved haha.

Jacob and I made the plans to go to Arizona and Jenna and I stayed in touch and hung out whenever she flew back home to Memphis to work. August could not come fast enough.

Jenna and I spent some alone time together the first night we got in and just opened up to each other. About life, about celebrations, about trials, about photography, about marriage, about our past and about our future. We laughed and laughed and cried and laughed until about 2:00AM, (4:00AM back on Memphis time) and then got up the next morning to explore Tucson.

The bond Jenna and I made, in the short time from which our friendship sprouted, has felt like it's been there our whole lives.

Weekend trips, countless hours in car rides and deep talks, sang Hozier and The Head and the Heart for an hour, sat in silence, cried together, pigged out together, she even got me to watch like 3 hours of Bones... I just love her. She is my pocket full of sunshine even when her skies are grey.

I guess you could say... long story short... it's like the saying about finding your real friends in your 20 something years, ^^^^ that's what happened. 2016 has given me some of the best people that could have ever entered my life and I am forever grateful. Here is to YOU, guys. May you always remember why you started this crazy journey in the first place and keep it close to your heart. Jenna, I love you goob. Can't wait to see you again!
